Woodrow Farm, Wigginton
Woodrow Farm was orginally built in 1875 by the Rothschild family as the home farm to Champneys, the intended dower house for Lady Rothschild.
The current farmhouse was built on the site of a much older dwelling. The earliest map of sufficient scale to show the farm is a Topographical Map of Hertfordshire published in 1766. Early records "The Place-names of Hertfordshire" records "Wodrewe" in Wigginton in the Lay Subsidy Rolls of 1525
The farm and farmhouse have altered substantially over the years - the 1890 census records eight farm labourers working here.
Since moving here over 25 years ago we have been fortunate to increase the size to approximately 145 acres and have created five new ponds, planted over two miles of hedgerow, three new woods and dozens and dozens of trees. Apart from this giving us great pleasure this all helps provide an excellent natural habitat for wildlife and a comfortable home for our herd.
